"What's the Buzz?" Our Educational Outreach Program!
fast-paced SCHOOL presentation!NOTE: Due to the pandemic we are only presenting OUTDOORS!
Did you know that it takes two million flower blossoms to make one pound of honey? And bees fly 55,000 miles to create that pound! These are just some of the fun facts that your students will learn during their "What's the Buzz?" experience. This fast paced, flexible classroom presentation will introduce your students to the world of the honeybee. They'll see the "tools of the trade" and learn how honey is made. We'll also discuss pollination, and how the food that we eat is dependent upon the tireless work of the humble honeybee. The present plight of honeybees due to pesticide use and destructive agricultural practices will be discussed, as well as what kind of sustainable solutions will preserve bee populations and save our food supply! What is the only food that never spoils? That's right, never! It's HONEY, of course! It's the only food made by insects, and jars found in ancient Egyptian tombs that are several thousand years old are still good! Students can sample several different floral varieties of honey during our classroom "honey tasting." They will also have the fun of creating their own honeycomb candle to take home (no heat required.) Dance, Sister, Dance! Worker Bees let their sisters know where the flowers are with a series of specific movements known as the Bee Dance. There are two different dances; the Round Dance and the Waggle Dance. Find out what they are and how they do this! God Save the Queen! Learn about the Queen's role in the hive, as well as the activities performed by her loyal subjects, the workers and the drones! Free TEACHER HANDOUTS AVAILABLE. Build an entire unit upon the bees if you like! Free literature about bees, including recipes, available. NOTE: We bring everything but the bees. There will be no bees in your classroom! Suitable for K-12. Presentations are typically 60 minutes in length but can easily be modified for 40-120 minutes. Pricing Varies based on size of group and number of presentations needed. Call or Text (305) 323-2363 for more information. Or email marcie@beemyhoney.buzz |
